We oppose the cuts to disability benefit proposed by this Labour government.
Disability benefits such as Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and the Limited Capability for Work component of Universal Credit are utterly vital for households with disabled people. They can also be the main means by which disabled people can afford to find and make regular work an attainable goal. Many disabled people already in work depend on PIP to stay in work. Cutting disability benefits will not just force disabled people out of work: cutting disability benefits will kill disabled people.
Scope’s analysis of government figures shows that without PIP alone, a further 700,000 households with at least one disabled person are likely to be pushed into poverty.
